How Night Guards are Created

Posted .

If you struggle with morning headaches or jaw pain, you are perhaps suffering from bruxism, also defined as nightly teeth grinding. We can develop you a mouth guard (known as a night guard) that you wear during sleep to avert any pearly whites from grinding or rubbing together; no one should have to hurt from bruxism when they don’t have to.

To develop your night guard, Dr. Jon Ormson will take an impression of your mouth (through use of a mold or digital means). Once the impression has been fashioned in our office, we’ll send it to a dental laboratory where the night guard will be fashioned. Using equipment that formulates the perfect conditions, the dental lab staff will form your night guard from the impression, and once it’s done, they will send it to our office.

On a follow-up visit, together with Dr. Jon Ormson, you will assess how the night guard fits in your oral cavity. The doctor will make any necessary modifications to the device to ensure your comfort. If the night guard is feeling uncomfortable, you can return to our office for an adjustment visit.
