What are the main offenders in our diets that we need to avoid? Our teeth can be damaged in a variety of ways, but the most dangerous tend to be products that damage our teeth over time because this can often be the hardest damage to detect. However, some of the foods we eat can do physical damage that happens immediately. This includes substances that loosen our gums or fracture, split, crack, and break our teeth.

Typically, products with sugars are the most hazardous to your oral health. Within your mouth bacteria can convert sugars into harmful acids that can eat through tooth enamel. Beyond sugars, acidic foods such as citrus fruits can also slowly wear down your tooth enamel.

Be wary of any products that are extremely tough to chew or bite into. Although our teeth are strong, they can easily be knocked out or broken by hard substances. Fortunately, it is possible to save teeth that have even been knocked out. Save the tooth by placing it in a liquid such as milk and seek the attention of your dentist immediately. Be careful not to touch the root of the tooth and any nerve endings.
